Abstract: Recent breakthroughs in research into screening the genetic material of an embryo prior to its being transferred to a recipient mare may soon give breeders and owners much more peace of mind, and in some cases control over how their foals turn out—a scientific breakthrough that may revolutionize the embryo transfer procedure in the process.

Abstract: Embryo transfer is a collective term for a technology used for replacing embryos from the uterus of one female organism into another. A technique used predominantly in cattle, but also very well applicable to swine – in the future perhaps even more so.

Abstract: Good semen quality stands for a maximum in fertility and shelf life, and absence of contagious micro-organisms. To have a boar that has the ability to match these essentials is only half the task. The crucial task is to preserve the quality characteristics of a boar’s ejaculate – a demanding and complicated process.Where are the pitfalls?

BETTER BOAR TRAINING

Better-Boar-Training

Author: Dra. Carmen de Alba Romero

Abstract: For boar studs, it is generally accepted that an animal is suitable for production if it can mount the dummy and semen can be collected. The number of trained boars and duration of training, the percentage of animals that mount the dummy, the time required per collection and the average number of sperm cells per ejaculate define the efficiency of the boar stud. When boars reach puberty at the age of five to eight months, it does not mean that their libido and ability to mount are fully developed. Environmental and individual factors of the boar can adversely affect his libido and sexual development.
